Rob Hunter, Observatories

I’m currently putting up a series of six prints Rob Hunter made of various observatories for the Murmuring Landscape exhibition which ran in our gallery from November 2010 until January 2011. Each beautiful four colour screen-print is of a major telescope in its enviroment. They are all an edition of less than 10 and are 20 x 25cm.

Going up today is LBT, Hobby Eberly and Mount Wilson. There will be three more released on Friday. Keep your eyes peeled!

Everything We Miss Signing

The End illustrated by Luke Pearson

Luke Pearson has illustrated a computer game! The End is a beautiful platform game aimed at engaging teenagers with the subject of mortality.

Set across three worlds – Mind, Body and Spirit – the player must use a unique shadow ‘n’ light mechanic to solve physics-based puzzles, answer questions and battle the world’s Guardians.

As well as illustrating this game, Luke Pearson has recently completed Everything We Miss and is currently working on a new title for us… How does he manage to produce such an abundance of high quality work?

Mikkel Sommer at The Imperial War Museum

Mikkel Sommer, author of the virtuosic Obsolete, is in London this month to be involved in a talk as part of The Comics and Conflicts Conference.

Obsolete follows two ex-soldiers descent into substance abuse after their return from a traumatic tour of service with no heroic memories and no loving family to support them. This downwards spiral eventually ends in a desperate attempt at bank robbery.

The Comics And Conflict event will be held on 19-20 August, 2011 at the Imperial War Museum in London, and is aimed at comics scholars, practitioners, and enthusiasts. Mikkel’s talk will be on Saturday 20th at 11.30am. It’s titled Artists and publishers discuss Trauma and Conflict. It will be charied by Paul Gravett and he will be speaking with Adrian Searle and Dave Turbitt.

McBess this Thursday at The Book Club Leonard St

This Thursday, McBess’ exhibition at The Book Club on Leonard street launches, this is of particular interest to us as one of our very first publications was Malevolent Melody (£12.50) by Mcbess, which features a 7″ vinyl with songs by Mcbess’ band The Dead Pirates. Since then we’ve collaborated again and again with our talented and prolific friend culminating in our recent release Big Mother #1: Mcbess (£18); a limited numbered edition artists monograph book in a large luxuriant A3 format. Exclusively for the Mcbess Book Club private view we will be holding a raffle for a signed copy of 3 different Nobrow Mcbess publications. But don’t worry if you don’t win because Mcbess will be on hand to sign books if you buy them on the night!

This August, highly regarded French illustrator, McBess (aka Matthieu Bessudo) will be exhibiting previously unseen canvas work, prints and 3D objects at The Book Club. His fascinatingly intricate work provides snapshots of his own experiences and is a contemplative diary of illustrative creations. The Folding Knife contemplates both current and childhood memories from which the title of the exhibition was born. A folding knife was a childhood keepsake of Matthieu’s and also reflects the detailed nature of his work. Don’t Panic commented on McBess ‘he’s so wonderfully French that he can make what would otherwise be freaky cartoon porn seem lovely and whimsical’. A collection of his art from the last three years will be published this July by Nobrow and The Book Club will be lucky enough to have the original cover design adorning the walls. Having shown previously at galleries across the globe such as Issue in Paris and Nucleus in LA as well as having his art on the cover of Design Week this month, this French gentleman certainly has an exciting buzz around him.
